Nello Petrucci is an artist and filmmaker. He studied cinematography at NUCT in Rome before graduating in Set Design at the Academy of Fine Arts in Naples. He produced several short films and collaborated with internationally renowned directors, an experience that converges into his creative experimentation imbued with cinematic references. His exhibition participations range from his native country to the United States, from Chile to Shanghai. After starting with collage, the Master delves into a profound reflection on the halftone technique. This screening process uses dots of varying sizes and colours to create a realistic image with corresponding tones and chiaroscuro passages. This construction symbolizes human diversity, emphasizing the importance of collaboration and dialogue. Petrucci’s art pieces are known for their visually vibrant appearance, created through a variety of techniques and tools. In addition to collage and halftone, Petrucci skilfully employs painterly interventions to enhance the overall effect. The result is a series of works that are stimulating, engaging, filled with a plethora of visual cues that captivate the viewer’s attention. These play on the continuous transition between figurative reference and chromatic energy, blending a modern repertoire with numerous references to the classical world. Screenprints dissolve this formal concentration by providing clear, immediately understandable narratives, where the image construction technique becomes the subject of the painting itself. Historical references are various and span from Mimmo Rotella to Roy Lichtenstein. They seem to serve as a link between the two places where the Master divides his life: Pompeii and New York. But the personal journey is not limited to this route. In fact, his parallel activity as a street artist has led him to work in cities all over the world. Nello Petrucci has consistently engaged in works of social denunciation, expressing himself on the most urgent themes of the contemporary world, aware of the duty, as an artist, to make his voice heard in order to highlight the inequalities and contradictions of existence.
