The Holzwege Group

AyaMarray is an international painter based in Antalya Province, Turkey, facing the Mediterranean Sea. Born in Matsue City, Shimane Prefecture, Japan, her practice is grounded in the belief that art functions as a tool for harmony in the world. She approaches painting not only as an act of expression, but as a means of engaging with the Earth as a living entity. Her work layers Japan’ s primordial memories with Turkey’ s vast landscapes, ancient histories, and cultural depth. Through the multilayered structure of acrylic painting, she visualizes the pulsations of the Earth, the vitality of living beings, and the tension between order and disorder. Time, memory, and existence are treated as coexisting layers rather than linear phenomena. After holding a series of annual solo exhibitions in Shimane Prefecture, she relocated to Turkey in 2020 as a strategic decision to dissolve both physical and conceptual borders within her life and artistic practice. In 2021, she formed the art unit AYA-MARC., originating from New York, establishing an international network that transcends geographical and cultural boundaries.
Since 2022, she has actively presented solo exhibitions in Japan and Turkey, including Gallery Takasegawa in Izumo and Galerie Kusabue in Nagoya. From 2024 onward, her activities expanded internationally, with solo exhibitions in Antalya and Ankara, participation in the International Exhibition of 101 Artists in Antalya, and joining the Japan Women Artists Association (JWAA).
In 2025, she participated in the international exhibition Mediterranean Song Festival in Antalya, held a solo exhibition in Beypazarı, Ankara, and exhibited at Tokyo International Art Fair 2025. In 2026, she is scheduled to exhibit at the Venice Biennale 2026 (Grenada Pavilion), participate in the 1st Japan‒Turkey Peace Exchange, and exhibit at Art Amoy 2026 (Art Xiamen International Expo) in China.
Through her practice, AYA MARRAY seeks to visualize invisible boundaries and foster dialogue beyond nations, cultures, and species. For her, art is not an object, but a method, an active tool for restoring balance and contributing to planetary coexistence.
