Alma Fakhre Artist Bio

Alma Fakhre is an artist whose early years were spent living between the then sleepy spice island Grenada and buzzing Beirut. Her work is deeply rooted in the heritage and spirituality of both the Caribbean and the Middle East. Attending  secondary school on the summits of the Swiss Alps, her home away from school became England, but this migrant soul’s only constant in life was that she would invariably return home to Grenada from New York, Paris, Australia and other places she lived. Being a global citizen, Alma adapted and fit in with ease in new environments but  no matter where she was living, Alma was always considered a foreigner everywhere. She would be asked the same question over and over again: “Where are you from?” Deep down she carried a sense of homesickness for Source. Yet she was aware there was no separation between people, who were all united for their longing for god. This feeling of universality, is reflected in Alma’s art.

Her work seamlessly blends spirituality with the beauty of her home, the whole planet. Alma goes into a semi-trance while creating an art piece, allowing her hand to be guided into free flow, using bold colors and dynamic brushstrokes with no apology. Grabbing nail varnish, wax crayons, gold leaf, or whatever is within her reach, Alma only stops when an inner symphony crescendos to a conclusion. Stopping immediately, she moves away from the art piece. Allowing time to pass, Alma returns to discover the idiosyncratic identity of each creation which reveals itself as a channeled surprise.

From an early age her art invariably contained spirals, Alma began noticing spirals everywhere: the spinning of the cosmos, fingertips, patterns of hair growth, ancient calligraphy, ferns, inner ears, seashells, and not least of all, DNA helixes. Alma’s art seems to be imbued with mysticism and magic. As an art critic in London observed: “Alma’s art is both cellular and cosmic, as if looking through a microscope into minute details and then looking through a telescope at the flow of infinity.”

Alma’s art schools include Parsons and Les Ateliers du Louvre. Alma’s art hangs in homes of established art collectors. Her most recent London exhibitions were at Regen Offices (2019) and Art Gallery 23MD (2018.)

Alma’s art evokes archetypes and triggers the unconscious. Continuing to evolve as an artist, Alma remains firmly dedicated to capturing the essence of mysticism by fostering a deeper connection to the Divine.
